Most Councils are now focused on completing 2013/14 projects to ensure the funding is not squandered. As is usual, the wet season has put the clamps on progress but hopefully the next couple of months will be positive for construction work. Progress on the 2013/14 works program is reasonable with expenditure at 63%.
A thorough review of the 2013/14 projects was undertaken at the meeting and the following projects were identified as being at risk of struggling to be completed by 30 June 2014.
Mareeba – Ootann and
Tablelands – Gunnawarra and Tully Falls Roads
These projects will be monitored closely for progress in the next couple of months – at the risk of sounding like a broken record, no carryover of funding into 2014/15 is permitted.
FNQRRTG has a policy in place requiring Councils to complete planning and design by 30 June for the following financial year’s projects, therefore planning and design for 2014/15 projects will need to be completed by 30 June 2014. A progress review was undertaken at the meeting and of the 10 projects scheduled, planning and design is completed on five with the other five well in progress. The Technical Committee members also provided an indicative construction schedule for the 2014/15 projects and all are proposed to be completed by Christmas 2014 – KR Darling Downs must have instigated a wing growing program!
