Road Safety Audits

TMR Far North has advised Councils to identify any potential safety hotspots on the state controlled network in their local government area that may warrant a road safety audit being undertaken. This information should be sent to Brett Martin (Manager Project Planning & Corridor Management) on email/brett.e.martin)(tmr.qld.gov.au or 07 4045 7073.

Speed Limit Reviews

TMR Far North has completed speed limit reviews on the FNQ region sites which were included within the 100 sites state wide selected in late 2013 from the wider public nomination process. There were no recommended changes to the current speed limits and zones for these sites. They are now undertaking speed limit reviews on other sites in the FNQ region which have been identified internally, by Councils or through other channels. Included in this is the examination of increasing sections of the Gulf Development Road to 110km/h which was raised at recent FNQRRTG meetings.

RMPC Funding

RMPC funding cuts had been mooted earlier in the year for Councils however this funding was recently reinstated for 2013/14. RMPC contracts for 2014/15 were now in the process of being finalised and signed with Councils. There does not appear to be any change to the funding levels for Councils for 2014/15 which is good news.

2014/15 QTRIP

The TMR "Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program" (QTRIP) for 2014/15 was released recently.  It was pleasing to see some projects allocated to state controlled LRRS in 2014/15 namely the Tully–Hull Road, Port Douglas Road, Kennedy Highway (Atherton to East Evelyn Road section) and the Atherton–Herberton Road.  TMR Far North is also still to finalise details of its reseal and structure programs for 2014/15 and it is hoped the state controlled LRRS will fare well also.  The QTRIP can be accessed on the following link – TMR Far North region details can be found from Page 129.

Road Asset Valuation Training

Training in the use of the Alliance's Road Asset Valuation tools was held in Cairns on Friday 27 June with representing Councils' having attendees. Graham Jordan delivered the training which was helpful as Graham essentially led the project and establish the tools. The Alliance Board kindly funded 50% of the cost of the training and we sincerely thank them for this. The tools are available through the Alliance portal on LG Online. This link will take you to the tools (remember however you must be logged in to LG Online to access).
