Bitumen Reseals/Asphalt Overlay

Discussions continue in relation to the second year of the Bitumen Reseal program and the possible development of a collective Asphalt Overlay program and we hope to have more news to report in next month's edition.

Scrap Metal Recycling

The inaugural meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) for the Regional Scrap Metal project took place at the beginning of the month.  I am pleased to confirm the meeting was extremely well-represented by a number of member Councils with much of the discussion focused on the benefits of a collective approach.  Scrap metal recycling is a complex area of waste management and the PSC are now in the process of agreeing the high level scope and objectives of the project with the next meeting due to take place shortly.

Late last month Steve Cosatto and I were kindly taken on a tour of some of the Tableland's Transfer Stations by TRC's Technical and Compliance Officer Chris Mitchell, and TRC's Coordinator Waste Services, Shane Teahan.  Site visits such as these really help to lift the project 'off the page' and we plan to spend time in other regions as the project progresses.  Thank you to Chris and Shane for their time.
