Firstly, my apologies for the delay in this newsletter; I have only just returned from two weeks leave. Due to my leave, and the FNQROC and FNQRRTG board meetings being postponed due to Cyclone Ita, I have little to report for the month of April other than a collaborative regional meeting with GHD who are undertaking the Northern Australia Infrastructure Audit. Not only did we discussed in further detail the submission we made, we had many players from across the broader region in the one room all supporting each other with no conflict in need or priority. I think it is important to recognise how far the region has come in this respect.
The transition process within FNQROC has been progressing well with May as the final month. Amanda has now been 'inducted' into regional procurement. I keep telling her "if it was easy, councils would have done it already!" Steve has well and truly got his head into Asset Management and will take full control of the RRTG at the end of May.
On a final note, it is with great sadness that I reflect on the contribution Amanda Riches has made not only to the Tablelands region but also to the FNQROC region. Amanda passed away suddenly on 3 May 2014. Amanda's passion for economic development in this region was reflected in all her actions. Her enthusiasm left little option other than to follow suit. It was with absolute enthusiasm that I supported her in taking on the position as Economic Development Manager at Advance Cairns. I had every confidence she would consider the region as a whole and share her wealth of knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm. Our deepest sympathies are extended to Mark, Matthew, Hannah and her extended family.
